It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of our Founding Chairman, Dr. John Young.

John was more than a leader of the Irish American Business Alliance of North Carolina; he was the catalyst behind its creation. His vision in 2023 was clear and enduring: to build a meaningful bridge between Ireland and North Carolina that would strengthen business, cultural, and educational ties for generations to come.
From the earliest conversations that led to the formation of the Alliance, John brought clarity of purpose, generosity of spirit, and an unwavering belief in the power of relationships. He understood that enduring partnerships are built not only on commerce, but on trust, shared heritage, and mutual respect. It is this belief that shaped the foundation of our organization.
As Founding Chairman, John’s guidance helped transform an idea into a growing community. His encouragement and conviction were instrumental in bringing together leaders across business, government, and academia on both sides of the Atlantic. Many of the connections that define the Alliance today exist because John saw what was possible before others did.
Those who worked closely with him will remember his thoughtful leadership, his warmth, and his ability to bring people together in a way that felt both natural and purposeful. He had a quiet determination that inspired confidence and a generosity that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and our members, we extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Mary Pat, his children, Seán and Moira, and the entire Young family. We are grateful for the life he shared with us and for the legacy he leaves behind.
As we move forward, we do so with a renewed sense of responsibility to carry forward the vision he helped establish. The Irish American Business Alliance of North Carolina exists in its present form because of John’s belief that such an organization was not only possible, but necessary.
We will honor his memory not only in words, but in the continued strengthening of the ties he helped create. (link to obituary)
